Countdown to Christmas: Sunshine Kisses

20 days left! I missed a day, so I owe you two tomorrow! :( (alas, the life of a full time employee and student)...

These cookies are my go to for any occasion! They are super easy to make and taste AMAZING!

Ingredients:
1 package (18-19 ounces) lemon cake mix
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons water
Powdered sugar
Lemon juice

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Combine cake mix, egg, oil, and water in Classic Batter Bowl; stir with Mix 'N Scraper® until thoroughly combined. Mixture will be slightly dry.
2. Using Small Scoop drop level scoops of dough 2 inches apart onto flat Baking Stone.
3. Bake 13 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool 3 minutes on Baking Stone; remove to Stackable Cooling Rack. Repeat with remaining dough. Cool completely.
4. For the glaze, mix together powdered sugar and lemon juice to get desired consistency. (If too watery, add more powdered sugar. If too thick, add more lemon juice.)
Yield: 3 dozen

Countdown to Christmas: Fleece Tie Blanket Tutorial

23 days left til Christmas!

Wanna keep warm this Christmas? Try this super easy no sew tie blanket on for size. (I'm so punny today...)

Step 1. Gather your supplies. You will need: 2 yards of 2 coordianting fleece fabric (of course I made an Alabama blanket), fabric scissors, a tape measure, and sewing pins.

Step 2. Start by pinning the two pieces of fabric together on all four sides. (This helps keep the fringe the same size and the fabric in place.)

Step 3. Trim selvage off each side of the fabric. Repin fabric together, if needed.

Step 4. Trash the selvage.

Step 5. Measure and cut a 6 inch square from each corner. This determines how long the fringe will be. (If you want shorter and longer fringe, you'll have to adjust accordingly.)

Step 6. Cut 1 to 1 1/2 inch wide strips (6 inches in) all the way around. Take out the pins as you cut the strips.

Step 7. Start at one of the corners- take each of the coordinating strips, and knot them together. (Right over left and tuck it under. Left over right and tuck it under.)

Yours should look like this. ^ Step 8. Continue the process of tying knots all the way around the blanket with the 2 coordinating strips.

Step 9. Gently stretch the blanket, so that the knots aren't so bunched together. Continue stretching the wole way around.

Step 10. Snuggle with your brand new tie blanket. :)

If you couldn't tell by all of my couponing posts, I kinda love couponing and bargain shopping- even for clothing. And Target has some of the cutest clothes. I always shop their clearance section and combine with printable target.com coupons for a better deal! I needed some longer sleeved shirts for the Colorado winter and to wear underneath my work shirt. I found 3 regular shirts at 50% off and one sleep top at 75% off. Then, I combined my initial clearance savings with a $5 off Women's apparel purchase of $20+ coupon and a $3 off Women's sleepwear coupon. I paid $17.39 + tax for 4 tops in the end. :) That's over 73% savings off the original price! You can do it, too!

Countdown to Christmas: DIY Wreath

I decided this year I wanted to do a special feature on my blog to count down the days to Christmas. Christmas is my absolute favorite time of year, so it's appropriate to celebrate every day in December until Christmas with a tutorial, DIY, or giveaway! :)

I love Christmas decor, but it just tends to be a tad overpriced! And as a college student paying my own tuition, there's no way I can afford it all! How about a cheaper and cuter alternative? :)

I saw this wreath at Hobby Lobby (where I work), and I thought it was adorable! Only problem- it retails for $130. Can you say No Way, Jose? Haha. Hobby Lobby is good about putting their Christmas stuff on sale for 50% off way before Christmas. At half off, the wreath is still $65!

Instead, I made this darling wreath that cost less than $20, and I'm going to show you how too make your own! :)

Step 1. Decide on your desired color scheme. (I wanted mine to be super Christmas-y, so I stuck with red, green, white, and a little silver.)

Step 2. Gather your supplies. You will need: a wreath, hot glue gun (and glue sticks), ribbon, scissors, ornaments, and some christmas picks that can be cut apart.

Step 3. Fluff your wreath (like you would a tree) to make your wreath thicker and fuller.

Step 4. Cut apart your Christmas picks.

Step 5. Glue each individual curly q at the inside end.

Step 6. Position each individual strand in your wreath- gluing each piece underneath the branches of the wreath. Make sure to glue each piece in the direction the wreath branches are flowing. Place as many as you'd like throughout the wreath, alternating colors.

Step 7. Cut a piece of ribbon about 10" long each. Make a thin line of glue across the center of the ribbon. Fold one end into the center to create one side of the bow.

Step 8. Create another thin glue line on top of the previous. Fold other end in to glue to create the other bow loop.

Step 9. Cut a 4 inch strip of a different ribbon. Glue one side of the smaller to the center of the back side of the bow. Wrap ribbon around the bow and glue the one end to the other.

Step 10. Repeat steps 7-9 for the second bow.

Step 11. Attach bows to opposite sides of wreath using glue gun.

Step 12. Hot glue ornments sporadically throughout the wreath- trying to alternate colors and patterns.

Step 13. Fill in any blank spots with remaining pieces from your picks.

Step 14. Hang your wreath and enjoy your new creation!

Halloween Costume

This year, I decided to make my halloween costume. I saw a Codex halloween costume being sold for $60 online, and decided I could do better! I made my whole costume including the staff for half that... Codex is a character from a web series calld "The Guild" for all of you non-nerds.

I haven't sewn anything in years, so this was a huge undertaking for me- very time-consuming considering I decided 3 weeks before Halloween to create this. I'm pretty proud of myself of how it turned out!

Hiya! Well, it's definitely been a while (understatement of the year!) since I blogged. No excuses! I just kinda got burnt out on life...(sad day!)

But I'm back- as a redhead no doubt! I dyed my hair for Halloween, and I just figured I'd keep it for a while. :)

How the heck have you been since I dropped off the face of the planet?

Check out your local Target if you need to stock up on make-up. My Target had A LOT of Clearance Make-up. When you combine with coupons, you can save big! I got 3 lip glosses and foundation for $3.06 with tax, and I saved $31.91! That's a 92% savings ya'll! How cool is that! I would've paid over double that for one lip gloss regular price! Woot!

Stuffed Peppers and a Craft Project

Last night, Heather and I were wanting to cook at home. She was craving stuffed peppers, so that's what we decided to make. :) They were so yummy, and I was STUFFED after eating them...you are what you eat, right? (,I did just go there, and had we put corn in them, I would have told you I'm CORNy too. haha!)

Then, we decided to be crafty and made quote frames with our favorite Bible verses. Hers says "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart." She was still sleeping this morning, so I didn't want to take a pic of hers and wake her up in the process.

We decided to do them ransom note style, and bought some magazines while we were out getting things for stuffed peppers. Mine says, " 'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord. 'Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.' " It's one of the verses that really speaks to me amidst a time of uncertainty of not knowing what I want to do with the "rest of my life". haha.

I may try to take better pics when the roommate is awake and I can turn a light on. :)

Couponing Stash v1.6 Target and King Soopers

I went to Target and King Soopers today, and I found everything on sale//clearance or used a coupon. :) I love it!

I spent $18.07 and saved $34.17! That's a 65% savings...Not too shabby for all of the grocery items...I'm pretty pleased!

Renaissance Festival

K and I went to the Renaissance Festival on Sunday. I haven't been to one since I was like 5, so I was so stoked to go. It was a lot of fun. I didn't take a lot of photos, because my phone was dying. Lucky for you, my roommates went the week before and took plenty for the both of us. :) I borrowed them with her permission, and I get to show all of you. :)

DIY Necklace and Earring Holders

I finally finished the necklace and earring holders for my room. They were super simple to make, and they are perfect for my jewelry.

You can get relatively cheap wooden frames at the thrift store or else try Hobby Lobby if they are having their home accent clearance sale at your local store (Ours are marked 90% off!)...

I'll post a tutorial soon for both of these. :)

It was so funny because there was a gluten free stand right by our section. How perfect and yummy! K and I decided we probably shouldn't go to Rockies-Braves games together. We were trash talking each other the whole game. haha.

Oh, and I got an autograph from Craig Kimbrel who hails from my hometown of Huntsville, Alabama. :)

This was one night for the books (even though my Braves lost)!

I was so bad and posted no DIYs for you this week. I got so busy with the Braves game and life that I just didn't get around to it. I'm gonna try for tomorrow!

Couponing Stash v 1.5 Target

Here's my latest couponing stash... :) I spent $10.57 and saved $59.12! So awesome! That's 85% savings!

Here's what I got: I paid nothing for the scotch tape, $1.75 for my jeans, 45 cents for hair color, a little over $1 each for the V8 fusion, 25 cents each for body wash, and 50 cents each for the deodorant- a decent trip!

K got the body wash, and of course made fun of me that he was going to have body wash til he was 50. Well, at least he'll be clean til then. haha. :)

Keeping on the D.L.// Life Catchup

I really haven't been up to anything recently. Just keeping on the down low mostly.

My aunt and grandma were in town from Michigan, so I have been doing a lot of hanging out with my beautiful family. For those of you that don't know, my dad was diagnosed with Lymphoma about a month ago, so they came out to see him for two weeks. Dad is doing amazing. He had his 2nd chemo treatment two days ago, and he is walking around without crutches. Praise God! He has just continued to get progressively better. :)

I started reading the comic book The Walking Dead on Tuesday night, and finished it basically in one sitting. So good!!! I wanna read all 13 of them, and then start watching the TV series online. :)

Also, if you didn't know, Big Brother 13 started last night! I don't know what it is about that show, but I got hooked last season. This season- they're doing partners. It should be an interesting season. I'm excited.

My aunt was the picture taker while she was here, so I'm waiting for her to upload those before I can snag them and show you.

I have also been listing a couple things at a time in my etsy shop. I'm listing a couple more today. :)

Yep. That's right. I just got back from Target, and as always, I had to share my stash. :) Let's see. See that pink shirt? Yeah, I got it for free. That's just how I roll. ;)

My total should have bee $43.68, but thanks to price cuts, coupons, and sales, I only spent $8.35 including tax. That's a savings of $35.33 or 81%. Yay! I'll take that any day. :)

Ok, so here's the stash from shopping for toiletries today. I got all of this with tax for $5.42. I saved $10.12, not including the price cuts of about $3.00 savings. I was pretty proud of my first couponing experience. :) hehe.

I got some groceries today too, but my bill for groceries wasn't as impressive.

life catch up

I took these iPhone pics 2 weeks ago that I forgot to share. K and I went to Boondocks, and played in the batting cages && played putt putt golf. Fun!

Not the best pics, but oh well...thats what you get for it being an iphone and dark out...haha.

I haven't swung a bat in years, so that was nice to be able to be in the batting cages. :) Although, my elbows did hurt the next day in response. K had never been in a batting cage before, so that was fun watching him hit.

Oh- and I still stink at putt putt.

Life's been a bit of a whirlwind recently. I feel extremely exhausted and drained. That's why I haven't really blogged much lately. I'll share more later, but just be praying for our family right now && that I would be strengthened and encouraged. :)

I haven't exactly gotten a picture of the tie dye shirts that Laurel and I made. I will blog those when I make time to do those. I've been a little preoccupied planning some small birthday festivities at my apartment for K. There will definitely be pictures (whether he likes it or not...)! :p Those should be coming soon...

As for yesterday, I had a really good day off. K and I had breakfast at Einstein Bros. (Man, I haven't had it in years...since freshman year of college...SO GOOD!) We walked around the mall, and then I finally saw THOR. :) It wasn't my favorite super hero movie of all time, but it was a decent film. The guy who played Thor wasn't bad to look at either... hehe. We had a late lunch at Tokyo Joe's. I had never been there before, but it was really good. Not to mention- I ACTUALLY learned how to eat with chopsticks (not just pretend I know how). Man, what a good day!

If you pray, remember my sweet momma in your prayers. She is having carpal tunnel surgery this morning. The doctor said it should only take 45 minutes for the actual surgery. Pray that there are no complications, and that the surgery goes smoothly. Also, pray that she has a swift recovery. I love you momma! Thanks for your prayers, y'all!

We had the sweetest neighbor bring us flowers when we first moved into the new apartment, and of course they died. I wanted to get some new flowers but didnt want them to die on me again. I decided to go to Hobby Lobby and get some fake silk flowers and do an arrangement with them. :)

Henna Tattoos

We had a little fun on Friday night. The roomies bought a kit to make your own henna tattoos so that's what we did. Ours of course do not look like real henna, but we had fun just the same.

Mother's Day

We had a very quiet Mother's Day. I went to Mom and Dad's, and we just hung out all day. Mom and I watched a movie, the Braves game, and some TV. We all (Mom, Dad, Me, and the two bros) had lunch and dinner together, and she opened presents. That was pretty much the extent of it.

Mom wouldn't let me take a picture of us together yesterday, so I must post one from a little back in the day (Christmas 2005 perhaps?).

This woman is incredible, ya'll! To have put up with me (and my two brothers) for the last 22+ years- that's a feat. She has patience like you wouldn't believe, and she's beautiful inside and out! I love you sooo much, Mom! You're a rockstar in my book!

Welp, that was fun.

So I finally got all moved into the new apartment. I'm so excited. It's super cute already. Eek! Lots of pictures to come soon. :)

We hung paper lanterns without the actual lanterns in our dining room and living room. I love them. Our living room is teal and zebra print. :) We still want to do a little bit of painting, but we'll save that for a rainy day. ;) Its been so beautiful the past couple of days in CO. I cant wait for summer!

A special thanks to two certain sweet boys for helping me move (My brother and Kyle). You two rock!

Break from Blogging

I apparently needed a break from blogging to recharge and get re-inspired. So much has gone on over the past couple months. I got a new job working at Hobby Lobby at the end of February. :) Eek. How perfect an opportunity to be re-inspired. haha! I love it there soooo much! Even bigger news: I am moving out at the end of the month into an apartment with friends. I am pretty excited about it, and I'm excited to decorate. :) I can't wait to share pics with you!
